Melbourne-based artist Zachary Leo has shared his new single, Can’t Get Enough. To celebrate the release, the musician has shared with MILKY his top five career highlights... so far!

“I like to think of my music as a vintage sound with a modern pop structure, taking influence from genres like Funk/Soul/Rock & Pop. There is strong emphasis on melody and groove as well as lots of wah guitar, driving bass lines and airy synths.” Leo shares of the track.

“The song speaks about being addicted to something that isn’t good for you and constantly wanting to distance yourself from reality, something that I found myself doing a lot over the past few years. A lot of my music tends to relate to what is going on inside my head, whether that be happy feelings or feelings of sadness. There are also frequent links to mental health which is something I feel very passionate about sharing with the world, so that hopefully others can feel they aren't alone in their struggles.”

SUPPORTING THIRSTY MERC

This was such an amazing experience for me! They were one of my favourite Australian bands growing up, so the opportunity to share the stage with them and for them to also be so lovely and supportive backstage was such a highlight for me!

FIRST SPIN ON TRIPLE J

I had dreamt of being played on Triple J since I was a young kid and watched the Hottest 100 on ABC every Saturday morning. So when I heard my song Feels get it’s first spin in 2020, it was just surreal! I will never forget that!

RELEASING MY DEBUT EP

Feels holds a really special place in my heart and I will forever be proud of it. I recorded and produced the whole thing myself in a little studio in Ferntree Gully and had to get the whole thing done during a pandemic (which was fun…). But no matter what, releasing my first big piece of art into the world was the scariest and most exciting thing I have done so far.

WORKING WITH 2X EMMY WINNING ENGINEER GUUS HOEVENAARS

Guus was one of my mentors at university when I studied Audio Engineering and we quickly started working together on some of my own projects. He taught me so much about recording, audio, performance and just general things about the industry. Working with him opened up my eyes to so much that has contributed to the artist I am today and he is such a talented and lovely person.

THE MICHAEL PARISI MENTORSHIP

One of the main things I learnt from my time with Michael was that I really needed to find my own sound and craft my own artistic identity. After the mentorship ended I really went away and worked on that and out popped So Good and Can’t Get Enough plus a heap of other songs that I have ready to go. I learn’t so many valuable things, but I think that sticks out to me.
