YNG MARTYR TAKES US THROUGH HIS DEBUT ALBUM 'LOVESICK' ONE MEME AT A TIME

Watch our interview with YNG Martyr below!

Naarm-based Wiradjuri artist YNG Martyr has dropped his debut album, Lovesick. To celebrate the release, we caught up with the meme lord to unpack his debut album one meme at a time.

Lovesick finds YNG Martyr expanding his sonic palette to create a genre-fusing body of work full of textural twists to create a dynamic listening experience. Opening with Blackhearted, which serves as the sole rap song on the record, droning production is fuelled by maximalist synth work, before pivoting into the guitar-led Overthinking, setting the tone for what is to come. He teams up with Allday on As I Should, YNG One on Hate U, which pivots into pop-punk, and Logan M on WAIT!, and tapped Sydney-based producer Tasker (Alison Wonderland, Nooky, Maribelle) for production duties.

Having made his debut in 2018, YNG Martyr has been carving out his own path within the Australian scene. Bringing his own flair and personality to each release YNG Martyr has dropped a string of singles, including his 2019 single Nike Ticks, which came to be after the musician took out a $15,000 loan to collaborate with meme pages and influencers in order to promote the song as a grassroots online campaign. 75 million streams later and YNG Martyr had cultivated a fanbase worldwide. Most recently, he supported multi-platinum selling artist iann dior on his Australian tour.
