The circus has rolled into Sydney; that is, Travis Scott’s spectacle CIRCUS MAXIMUS World Tour. Eight years since his last Australian tour, the American rapper has had quite the venue upgrade - having gone from Metro Theatre in 2016 to two performances at the Harbourside city’s Allianz Stadium.
From the moment Scott stepped on stage, energy pulsated throughout the arena as tens of thousands of fans erupted in cheers and screams. This energy was consistent throughout the high-energy evening, from the raucous mosh pit that consumed the stadiums floor, all the way up into the stalls; the stadium was filled with electricity. He told fans of his return to our shores, “It feels so fucking good to be in Sydney, Australia tonight. Yo, if we do this tour, there’s no fucking way we do not come down under to Australia.”
Scott captivated his devoted audience with his enigmatic energy and ability to engage with his audience through each song. He made dreams come true as a pre-recorded audio clip boomed through the arena stating: “you have been selected to ride the parasail.” Five fans were then selected to join him on stage for a number of songs, creating a core memory with their favourite artist. The rapper spoke about gratitude, and was thankful to his fans for their unwavering support towards his career and allowing him to live the life he leads. The vulnerable and intimate moment allowed the audience to see past the haze of stardom, and connect with a more human side led by humility and appreciation.

The setlist was packed with hits and fan favourites, including Type Shit, MY EYES, BUTTERFLY EFFECT, HIGHEST IN THE ROOM, I KNOW?, SICKO MODE and goosebumps. Of course, there’s a particular song from the Scott’s discography that took centre stage. FE!N was played a total of six times, in which each replay was more electrifying and enraged than the last. Audience members on the stadium floor and golden circle sections on either side of the stage were non stop raging. It was like a jungle, orchestrated by the rapper controlling the crowd with each beat drop. Scott’s versatile performance showcased not only his prowess as a performer, but also his ability as a live rapper. He never missed a beat, punctuating each word and delivering an enrapturing performance.
Living up to its name, the CIRCUS MAXIMUS World Tour’s production and set design displayed stunning visual effects. The shows lighting design filled the arena with strobing lights and beaming rays, whilst show-stopping graphics appeared on screen. Pyrotechnics lit up the stadium, creating a simmering atmosphere that fuelled Scott and his audience. The tours staging was also designed to have the audience wrap around the mammoth walkway, with Scott performing in the centre allowing for a more immersive experience than a traditional arena stage. In turn, the rapper has produced an engaging feast for his adoring fans.
