On her new single Church, icon and national treasure Tina Arena (AM) is bringing the 007 vibes to her grand return! Feeling like the theme song to a James Bond film with epic soaring vocals, beginning as a soothing ballad before roaring into mammoth orchestration.
The first taste of new music from Arena in over five years, Church opens a new chapter in the singers illustrious career, marking her first ever independent release. The track is just the first release in a string of singles planned throughout the year, and sees the singer return to her roots to create a moment within her vast catalogue of music that showcases her unmistakable voice. Using the term church as a symbolic image of her new journey, the track was actually recorded in a tiny church in Sweden last year, with Duran Duran’s Andy Taylor on guitar and Swedish powerhouse Mattias Lindblom on production duties.
Writing in her personal journals throughout the process, Arena penned: “this is the first time I’ve felt genuinely liberated …. Both creatively and musically. I will no longer compromise more than I care to acknowledge. I’m no longer fearful in my artistic expressions…I’m ready to accept what comes with open arms”.
Arena will return to Aussie stages next month, touring nationally on her Enchanté Tour. Kicking off this Sunday in Brisbane, the run of shows will continue on to Sydney, the Gold Coast, Adelaide, Melbourne, Perth and Wollongong, before wrapping up with three shows at Canberra's Llewellyn Hall. Tickets are on sale now.
Church is out now! Listen to the track below.
