THE TERRYS 'THE TERRYSONIC MIXTAPE' REVIEW

☆☆☆☆

South-coast favourites The Terrys long awaited debut EP has arrived, greeting fans like an old friend after months of being apart. Working on The TerrySonic Mixtape with producer extraordinaire Jack Nigro, the five-piece bring their signature honest and conversational lyricism to the collection of songs, with frontman Jacob Finch's impassioned vocals laced throughout the the tracks.

From the moment we press play, The TerrySonic Mixtape captures that Tezza's charm we know and love. The EP begins with an ode to their fans, opening with a voice message from a die-hard Terrydactal on Ned Sanchez. The sweet moment captures the mammoth year the band have had since forming in June last year, and sets the scene for the dizzying sonic ride that is to follow.

Melbourne Bitterz immediately revs up the dazzling surf-rock sonics of The Terrys' previous releases, inspired by the bands first trip to Melbourne. Recalling on the late nights and good times, the feel good track will have you nostalgic for those pre-lockdown nights out. Our Paradise continues the social themes explored within The Terrys music, focusing on the grind of working 9 to 5, but finding your own paradise. Bringing a new quality of sound to the track, whilst also staying true to the bands signature hooky vocals, guitar leads and fast and furious drums.

Cost The Peace is the antithesis of Melbourne Bitterz, vividly capturing the morning after a big night out, realising maybe it's time to hang up the bender boots, with Blue incorporating sonic threads of reggae. By the EP's closer Never Going Home, the band are ready to deliver one of their most anthemic tracks to date, with a strident hook rocketing above acoustic based sonics.

In the short time since their formation, The Terrys have tapped into their own form of liquid gold, setting themselves apart from the surf-rock scene. Creating a unique and charming listening experience, the five-piece engage with what it means to be in your early 20's, figuring out your place in the world and holding your friends close. The engaging release is just the first chapter in The Terrys exciting tale.
