Melbourne/Naarm based, indie-pop project Tamara & the Dreams recently unveiled their debut EP Cracked Phone Screens. To celebrate the release, the group shared with MILKY five pop culture moments that influenced Tamara & the Dreams.

Speaking of the EP's latest single, the group share: “St Kilda Beach features vocals from Gabriella Cohen, who I was a fan of, then serendipitously met and ended up getting her and her musical partner Kate to record and produce the song in my kitchen.”

THE ONE DIRECTION CONCERT I WENT TO IN 2013 AT ROD LAVER ARENA

Throughout my life leading up to this concert and throughout the years after, I don’t think I have ever screamed so loudly. When the boys went on their little stunt balcony and flew over the crowd my heart leapt out of my chest. I’d do anything to feel that rush again x

A BAND THAT NO LONGER EXISTS CALLED BIG DEAL

I discovered this band via the iTunes ‘free song download of the day’ and promptly became obsessed. I felt very special for being the first person anywhere to find this truly very indie band from the UK and I recommended their album to everyone so I would seem like I had cool music taste. However, 14 year old me must have been onto something because I still adore their music.

THE WAY TAYLOR SWIFT WRITES LITTLE INTRODUCTION ESSAYS FOR HER ALBUMS

I’m a lifelong Swiftie but I especially love the way she treats each album she releases as its own era and world. I poured over them as a teenager and whenever I’m writing any explanations about my music I have the urge to make it as melodramatic and poetic as Taylor does. I don’t usually because I’m not a world famous pop star yet.

LORDE’S SONG ROYALS THAT I DOWNLOADED OFF SOUNDCLOUD

I remember the moment I first heard Royals by Lorde and I honestly thought I was the first person in the world to discover it, ignoring that I discovered it on Triple J. I’ve never looked up anyone’s soundcloud so fast. That first EP, including my favourite song EVER of hers ‘The Love Club’, is probably still sitting somewhere on my mum’s desktop computer.

WHEN I SHOOK KATY PERRY’S HAND IN 2011 WHILE WEARING RAINBOW TIE-DYE LEGGINGS AND NETBALL RUNNERS.

I don’t need to say anything else here, but see if you can spot me in the picture.
