NSW Government and City of Sydney’s pop-up concert series initiative Sunset Piazza has extended its run, with a second line up announcement! Crossing comedy and music, the performances will run until late March, with a bevy of local acts and an exclusive set from American musician Ben Folds.
Also joining the Sunset Piazza 2021 season are Brisbane’s award-winning singer-songwriter and Eurovision heroine Kate Miller-Heidke and her classical infused contemporary pop; lauded local Sydney troubadour Josh Pyke; Melbournian comedic singer-songwriter Eddie Perfect; singer, producer and multi-instrumentalist G Flip; a DJ Set from legendary multi-platinum ARIA award-winning Sydney dance outfit Pnau; Sydney based politically charged hip hop artist Ziggy Ramo; soul hip hop six-piece Winston Surfshirt; Shire songbird Ruby Fields, Sydney folk queens All Our Exes Live In Texas, and North Coast-based singer-songwriter Pete Murray.
Bringing the laughs is, the Sunset Piazza Comedy Gala feat Wil Anderson, Sam Taunton, Danielle Walker, Oliver Twist, Alex Jae and MC Justin Hamilton. A much-loved fixture of the LGBTQI+ community in Sydney, The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Choir with special guests Casey Donovan and Trevor Ashley; and the award-winning musical theatre and cabaret ensemble Rewired: Musicals Reimagined on the Sunset Piazza by Hayes and The Sunset Piazza Community Concert complete the 2021 program.
Already a massive success, the series has revitalised live music in Sydney, providing a space for artists to once again connect with their audience in person. “When we launched Sunset Piazza in late January, jazz musician James Morrison spoke about how difficult 2020 was for artists and how special it will be to perform for a live audience again,” Lord Mayor of Sydney Clover Moore said. “I am so pleased that together with the NSW Government and Sydney Festival we can create a stage for so many of Australia’s talented artists and comedians and provide audiences with a COVID-safe way to enjoy them again.”
Located at Cathedral Square opposite Hyde Park, Sunset Piazza transforms the city into an outdoor cultural experience. Presented by the team behind Sydney Festival, led by Artistic Director Olivia Ansell and programmed by Chris Twite, a number of the previously announced shows sold out in record time, with new seats have been announced for all remaining performances.
“The Sydney Festival is thrilled to curate this authentic summer program, collaborating with the City of Sydney and NSW Government to invite Sydneysiders back to the CBD in a COVID safe environment. ‘Sunset Piazza’ is reigniting Sydney’s night-time economy, offering $25 tickets to a first-class line-up of Australian talent, while also employing hundreds of artists and crew, which is another important step towards industry recovery,” said Sydney Festival Artistic Director Olivia Ansell.
All events will follow COVID-safe regulations and guests are reminded to follow the latest NSW Health advice regarding social distancing, hygiene and staying home if unwell. Tickets are on sale now!
