Norwegian punk pop sensations Sløtface have dropped their new single, Final Gørl. To celebrate the release, front woman Haley Shea, has shared with MILKY her top five 'final girl' films.
“The song is a play on the Final Girl trope from horror movies where the final girl is pure, virginal and better than all the other more overtly sexual women in the movie. I wanted to flip the script on that, so the I character is saying no to all those rules about who she has to be.” Shea shares.
HALLOWEEN (1978 VERSION)
A good old classic featuring Jamie Lee Curtis - a personal favorite, in one of her defining roles. It’s not too scary, pretty camp and at times really funny. A classic for a reason!
TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE (1974 VERSION)
Another classic for a reason. One of the creepiest villains of all time, and one of my absolute favorite classic horror locations. The set of the film is perfectly southern creepy and I think about the house in the original Texas Chainsaw often.
FRIDAY THE 13TH (2009 VERSION, A REMAKE)
This was one I watched while working on the album and researching for Final Gørl and it is so dumb. It’s a perfectly naughties example of where the genre went in my formative horror movie watching years as a teenager growing up in the early 2000s. Jared Padalecki - who will always be Dean to me <3 is the perfect horror-movie-hot-guy and some of the scenes are truly creepy - Jason underneath the floorboards and the sleeping bag burned alive scene. Worth a re-watch if you enjoy the so bad it’s almost good films.
NOT A FILM, BUT THE BOOK FINAL GIRL SUPPORT CLUB
by an author I really like, Grady Hendrix was a big influence on the song. Love the meta-horror in Hendrix’s books and the main character who kind of voices Final Gørl is very influenced by the main characters in this book who are tough and fed up with the world.
IT FOLLOWS (2014)
Maybe my favorite horror movie of all time and I think of this film so often after having first seen it in theatres when it came out. It’s such a good twist on the 'Final Girl' trope, being so explicitly sexual, the villain is literally an STI, and has my favorite horror soundtrack of all time that is an amazing and elevated nod to John Carpenter's classic horror soundtracks. Such a good film, such good characters, such a good idea and plot, such stunning shots - the pool scene at the end appears in my brain all the time after ten years. Go watch it immediately if you haven’t seen it!
Final Gørl is out now!
