Indie singer-songwriter Riley Pearce shares his sophomore album, It’s Your Turn Now. To celebrate, the musician has shared with MILKY his favourite recent vinyl purchases.

“Becoming a dad changed everything and really helped me learn to be patient,”Pearce shares of the record. “This album documents my journey through arguably the biggest shift and upheaval of my life and how I processed it all. The highs, the lows, the grand picture, and the minutiae of it all. It’s the rawest and most shell-less I’ve been in my songwriting and I wanted to reflect that in the production a lot of the time too. The album was produced and recorded in my backyard shed-turned-studio and that in itself was a deep end cannonball as much as the transition to parenthood felt like.”

ANGIE MCMAHON - LIGHT, DARK, LIGHT AGAIN

I have always been a fan of Angie's writing. It might not be the case, but I'm left feeling like each song is a letter to herself and almost a call out then to anyone else feeling the same way, which is so beautiful and gives a voice to all those quiet feelings that no one talks about but are happy sharing through the connection of song.

Fave Track: Fish.

NOAH KAHAN - STICK SEASON

There's something about his songwriting that really hits me. I love how much heart he sings with, his lyrics and the way the songs build and wrap up all the hurt, all the emotion, and the yearning. I always try to pride myself on how much of myself I put into my songs and I feel like Noah does this way more than I ever thought was possible.

Fave Track: Everywhere, Everything.

BAY LEDGES - RITUAL

I've been listening to a lot of lo-fi lately and then layering my own vocals over the top of tracks when I discovered Bay Ledges and really loved his sound and this album, in particular. Occasionally I run a basketball program at a local youth centre, and this is often what I put on over the speakers.

Fave Track: Changing.

MK.GEE - TWO STAR & THE DREAM POLICE

If it's not the guitar tones and modern-yet-eighties inspired sonic palette that gets you hooked, the melodies of his writing will. Such a fun album to listen to and dissect. It makes me want to write more creatively and experiment with adding a bit more chaos to the production.

Fave Track: Candy.

TOLEDO - HOW IT ENDS

This album influenced me a lot in the early stages of my album recording. I've been listening to a lot of that Midwest folk scene, or the Pinegrove influenced bands. I love a steady lo-fi drumbeat that keeps a song driving and their melodies are always so so good.

Fave Track: Flake.

RILEY PEARCE - IT'S YOUR TURN NOW

I couldn't not put my own album in this list, given how much work went into it (as well as a little part of my soul). Every song tells a story that really sums up the chapter of my life, finding my feet in a new landscape, and navigating all the impacts that had on myself and my relationships. I have loved playing these songs live, especially "How Will I Know" for some reason that song sounds great live with a band.

Fave Track: Forever or Any Day Now.
