Naarm emo/pop-punk outfit, PRETTY BLEAK have shared their new single, do you feel the same?. Arriving just in time for their appearance at BIGSOUND, the band have shared with MILKY their starter-pack for the event.
“The song is about the human tendency to placate our emotions with menial pleasures, which develop into addictions or dependencies,” explains vocalist Sam Thomas. “The specific nature of the addiction is dependent on the listeners interpretation, whether it be drugs, or laughter, or the amount of times you look in the mirror each day.”
Next week, PRETTY BLEAK will take to the stage at BIGSOUND for two showcases on Sept 6, 7:00pm at The Zoo, and Sept 7, 8:15pm at Superfly Studios.
Considering we’ve never been to BIGSOUND before, these are all merely guesses and most will probably be proven incorrect once we actually experience it.
ONE. METICULOUSLY PLAN YOUR SET LIST
The purpose of playing at BIGSOUND is to showcase yourself to the industry, and we feel that in order to make the best possible impression on whoever sees us play, we have to make sure our setlist is perfect. It can be a very difficult and frustrating process, but ultimately it's worth it if we want to put on the best show that we possibly can.
TWO. STAY CLOSE TO THE VENUE
We’ve been lucky enough to get a hotel that is within walking distance of the entire location where BIGSOUND is taking place. We did this intentionally, as we’re from Melbourne and wont have access to a car. There's nothing worse than trying to coordinate multiple Ubers to take band members and all our gear from where we’re staying to where we’re playing. It's actually a nightmare that we endeavour to avoid at all possible costs. So thank god we’re staying somewhere close enough to just walk to our shows. A significant amount of unnecessary stress will be avoided.
THREE. DON’T GET TOO FUCKED UP
We’ve made a promise to ourselves to stay reasonably sober for most of the week. This resolution is a consequence of learning the hard way. We consider being invited to play at BIGSOUND as the most important opportunity that we’ve had in our music careers so far, and even though there will be time to party, the majority of our time has to be spent making the absolute most of the week and getting as much out of it as possible. Can guarantee that you don’t get anything out of a hangover, so we’re endeavouring to avoid that for the most part.
FOUR. TRIANGULATE YOUR LOCATION WITH A VAPE STORE AT ALL TIMES
Perhaps self-explanatory, and I’m sure there are heaps of these in the valley, but you never can be too sure when the flashing light of hell will choose you.
FIVE. GO INTO IT WITH AN OPEN MIND:
We are trying to approach BIGSOUND with no expectations whatsoever. It is difficult to do that considering how big of a deal it is, but we feel like we will be at our best if we avoid developing any preconceived expectations about what is going to happen or how the week is going to go. We’re just hoping to have a good time, play our music as best we can, learn a lot, and hopefully meet some people who we can develop more long-term relationships in the music industry with.
