Sydney-based duo The Sugarland Express are gearing up to release their new single, Party!. If you're like us and cant wait to have a listen, give the track a spin right here on MILKY before its release!
On the track, the duo continue their nostalgia-fuelled approach to creating danceable music, bringing together notes of disco, surf-rock and and 1960's inspired rock and roll below bopping melodies and instrumentation. Written and recorded in their home-studio, the song was inspired by Elvis' Hot Dog, and is a bright moment that spreads a message of joy and positivity and the fun that can be had when we come together.
“Party!’ was recorded in my home studio, our writing and recording process is pretty much done together, so the bare bones for the track were all there and recorded on the day. From there we spent about a year adding the finer details to the track, trying to figure out what was needed. At that time we thought it’d be epic to have a 70s vibe sax solo after the second chorus. We were recommended by a friend to get in touch with Anthony Rositano who played and recorded the part from his home in Adelaide.” Alex Carlo-Stella, one half of the duo, shares.
"Everything you need to know is right there in the title. We want to have a party and everyone is invited. Digging deeper though, it touches on some key ideas that are a part of the Sugarland ethos. We aim to write music for people to have a good time to, and we want to welcome everyone to join in from all walks of life. As the cliche goes ‘music is about bringing people together’, but really that’s what it should all boil down to. We definitely had the picture of a groovy 1960s party in our heads when we wrote this too, where everyone came to get down and boogie.”
