Melbourne-based artist Nikki Wishart is gearing up to release her new single, Jealous. If you can't wait to give the track a spin, you can listen to the song right here on MILKY!
Opening with dulcet strummed guitar work, Wishart's hushed vocals begin to bring introspective and vulnerable lyricism to life as she contemplates her own life and its progression. The track serves as a comment on the comparative nature of modern society, fuelled by the impact of social media and the draw to presenting a curated life online.
"Jealous paints a story of that thought a lot of us have but are afraid to vocalise - am I falling behind my friends? I had been seeing everyone around me get engaged online and I couldn't help but compare my life to theirs and societies norms" Wishart shares.
"I often find myself being competitive, but sometimes that becomes my downfall. Everyone does life at their own pace, everyone has their own struggles, myself included. The process of writing and recording this track allowed for perspective. From chatting with Josh King in the first session to fleshing out the production with Hayden Lauersen I came to realise that social media and people's life online isn't always as it seems."
Influenced by the emerging pop forces Holly Humberstone and Chelsea Cutler, Wishart made her debut with Mirror Mirror, quickly followed up Control. With two years between releases, the singer returned last year with Compromised, followed up by a string of singles leading to her latest release.
