Perth trio DICE are gearing up to share their debut EP, Adolescent Arcade. If you're like us and can't wait to give it a spin, you can listen to the EP right here on MILKY before its release!
The EP's opener Tickets brings a dynamic vocal performance from Ben Hodge, who meanders between drawn out tones and spitfire delivery, whilst introducing us to the bands captivating indie surf-rock realm. The sun-soaked Double Espresso explores the impact of keeping a partying lifestyle amidst the gruelling nature of touring, before Bad Tattoo offers up a cheeky side to the band, as they note how bad tattoos serve as reminders of moments passed and the fun side of young adulthood. Closing with Stop Sign, the trio reflect on their own values and explore believing in yourself whilst striving to achieve your dreams.
“We wanted to be able to share our experiences, emotions and struggles over the past year. As we progress as a band, we want to show our old and new fans that we’re still a bunch of young guys who are passionate about music. The 4 tracks on the EP are a perfect representation of this and will provide and insight to who we are.” the band share.
Created alongside Sam Ford at Tone City Recording Studio (Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, POND & Abbe May), DICE cement their place as one of Australia's most exciting indie acts with Adolescent Arcade. Laced with ear-worm sing-a-long melodies, driving percussion and glistening guitar lines, the collection of songs is the perfect taste of contemporary surf-rock, heralded by Hodge’s smooth and commanding vocals. The EP captures what it means to be a young adult in 2022, searching for your path in life, having fun and partying hard, brought to life by vivid lyricism.
“Our songs were written prior to recording during our rehearsals and spare time. However, the collaboration with our producer, Sam Ford led to new ideas that we had not considered before. It was a very collaborative and open minded process of trying new chords, harmonies and lyrics which lifted the song to another level. The ability for different creative minds to be able to share ideas led to additional components being a pivotal part of the tracks.”
Having already sold-out a number of headline shows since their formation in 2020, DICE are hitting the road on a tour across Western Australia to celebrate the release. Kicking off in Mandurah on April 1, the run of shows will continue on to Leederville and Margaret River, before wrapping up with their own mini-festival, DICE Fest, in Perth on April 30. Also performing at DICE Fest is local bands Ra Ra Viper, Dear Sunday, Spici Water, Residents Club and Sago.
