Perth’s South Summit have shared their new single, Catacombs. To celebrate the release, the band are taking us along for the ride of their recent tour with an exclusive photo diary.

“The main themes are coming of age and how we deal with certain aspects of pain. Catacombs is a track that helped me delve deep within myself so I hope others can too. The inspiration behind catacombs comes from certain experiences from my life, and ‘catacombs’ represent that to me. The catacombs are a dark place beneath a somewhat beautiful place. I feel that everyone has their own catacombs hidden within them. So, I wanted to tell a story about what my catacombs look like..” band member Zaya Reuben shares of the track - which is set to appear on their forthcoming debut album The Bliss, out November 8th.

WE THOUGHT WE LOST JOSH AFTER THE FIRST NIGHT

On the night of the first show of tour in England we headed back to our accommodation, tour in Europe is expensive so we saved money by staying at a hostel with many rooms of other people. Everyone was a little drunk but we still got into bed and slept safe and sound. When we woke up josh was gone without any trace and he left his phone behind so wouldn’t call him. We spent almost an hour trying to brainstorm about where he could be. We decided we were just going to go out on the street and just walk in different directions, search party style. And right as we’re about to leave we see a sleepy josh opening the door to the room. Turns out during a late night potty trip he’d taken right instead of a left and crawled into someone else’s bed in a completely different room.

CARD GAMES IN THE VAN

Most of this trip was spent sitting in a van for 10 hours to get halfway to the next city. Huge shout out to graham our tour manager for taking on that massive task. The thing we ended up doing on these trips when we weren’t sorting our band stuff, was hours and hours of card games. We got lucky with the van which had a table between to rows of chairs facing eachother. Wind and sharp turns were a big problem though and everything often went flying onto the floor. So many good laughs about those card games, definitely a must have for any future tours to come.

BEACH DAY IN SANTANDER

One of the two free days we had in Europe just happened to be in one of the most beautiful places we stopped in. Santander was so interesting in how different it was to the other spots in Spain. The beach was almost as good as the Aussie beaches, we took advantage of the heat and jumped in. I ran around and found a way overpriced soccer ball that was more like an egg than anything but it was good enough for a kick around on the sand. This day came at the perfect time, we all needed a break from the long drives and the stinking humid heat.

WATCHING THE EUROS.

Almost all of us are pretty big soccer fans and we got so lucky with almost every single euros game ending up on a day where we were in that country and not performing. We got to see so many home crowds cheering on their teams. Nathan is a huge england fan and we all were rooting for them to win since they hadn’t won a trophy since the 60’s. They didn’t win. But still it was pretty fun jumping up and down screaming at the tv in the accom or the local pub when they scored a last minute winner.

POST SHOW WITH CAT EMPIRE.

It was so interesting to see how The Cats were on tour, especially after a show. They’d come off stage and immediately get onto an acoustic guitar and trumpet playing spanish songs and all singing and dancing. I wasn’t expecting a band who has been touring that long to not be sick of it at all by now. Joining in on this was so much fun and there was a crazy amount of sharing cultures going on. Definitely something we learned to take and keep going in our tours for the future.
