Paramore are back! The iconic Nashville-based trio have treated us all with their new single, This Is Why, and the announcement of their sixth studio album. Alongside the release arrives a stunning visual, directed by Turnstile’s Brendan Yates.
Serving as the records title track, This Is Why builds upon the new-wave meets pop-rock sonics of their 2017 album, After Laughter, this time leaning into more funk-based influences heralded by a bubbling bass line and twangy guitar melodies. Front woman Hayley Williams' luring vocals bring biting lyricism to life, with the trio commenting on the current cultural landscape. The dynamic cut proves no matter how long between offerings, Paramore never fail to deliver and push up against the boundaries of their previous releases to deliver an equally engaging and evolved sound.
“This Is Why was the very last song we wrote for the album. To be honest, I was so tired of writing lyrics but Taylor convinced Zac and I both that we should work on this last idea. What came out of it was the title track for the whole album. It summarizes the plethora of ridiculous emotions, the rollercoaster of being alive in 2022, having survived even just the last 3 or 4 years. You’d think after a global pandemic of fucking biblical proportions and the impending doom of a dying planet, that humans would have found it deep within themselves to be kinder or more empathetic or something.” Williams shares.
Paramore are set to hit the road on a sold-out North American tour next month, and are also set to appear at Austin City Limits, When We Were Young Festival and Corona Capital Festival. Whilst no international tour dates have been announced, the trio are no strangers to Australian stages, having visited our shores for a number of tours, most recently in 2018 on their After Laughter tour.
This is Why is out February 10th 2023. Watch the visual below!
