Grammy®-nominated Mexican-American singer-songwriter Omar Apollo has delivered his new single, 3 Boys. The track follows the release of the deluxe edition of the musicians debut album, IVORY (Marfil), late last year.
Apollo's soulful vocals float above captivating guitar melodies and pulled-back production that captures the swooning sonics of 1960's love songs, embedded within the musicians signature R&B-meets-pop sound. The track explores the complex nature of a non-monogamous relationship, and the emotions that rise within, expertly captured through the songs intimate and thoughtful lyricism to take centre stage.
"When I first started writing songs I would often write about unrequited love. Eventually I wrote songs about the complexities that come with a relationship. "3 Boys" was my first time writing about something non-monogamous. Having more than one person to talk to. I wrote the song on a rainy day in London. I spent most of December there, mostly just because I wanted to get out of America. I ended up going to the studio more than I thought I would. I wrote the song with a friend of mine, Dylan Wiggins. It seemed like we were both in the same mind state for a song like this. The song wrote itself really quickly. I also had my friend Mustafa help me with a few lines after I played it for him." the musician shares.
Apollo will return to Australian stages this April and May, performing at Groovin The Moo. Kicking off at Adelaide Showground on April 21, the run will continue on to Maitland, Canberra, Bendigo and Warana, before wrapping up at Hay Park in Bunbury on May 6. Tickets are on sale now! Later this month, he musician is also set to support SZA for nineteen dates across her North American tour.
Having burst onto the scene in 2018 with his self-release, back-to-back EP's, 2018’s Stereo and 2019’s Friends, Apollo began introducing the world to his self proclaimed "bedroom soul" sonic realm. His fusion of R&B and pop paired with his undeniably smooth and mesmerising vocals lured listeners in and held their attention as his career began to launch.
His lyrical exploration of romantic yearning, self-improvement, cultural heritage and identity form the basis of his releases, with his debut mixtape, Apolonio, earning him a new legion of fans. In 2022, the musician delivered his compelling debut album, IVORY, earning him critical acclaim and a GRAMMY nomination for 'Best New Artist. The body of work featured the Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo produced single, Tamagotchi, and led to a sold-out headline tour and set at Coachella.
