Melbourne-based artist Noah Calderan recently shared his new single, Real Love?. To celebrate the release, the musician has shared with MILKY his top five love songs.
Leaning into neo-soul meets pop-rap sonics, the track showcases the musicians multi-genre exploration and Calderan's melodic flow. Laced with moments of introspection and reflection, the musician explores the deeper emotions of a relationship, questioning what love is as he leaves behind any doubts present.
"Music resonates, music is language and music is a story. Real Love? is a musical resort that delivers a message of vulnerability and embracing the unknown. So far, the response to this project and the lead-up to the release has been (and still is) incredible and overwhelming. Real Love? is a part of me that I express through music and it’s great to see that people love it too."
CELESTIAL - ED SHEERAN
Ed is the reason I’m a musician entirely and is someone I highly idolise. Not to mention, Pokémon is a slice of my childhood, so this collaboration was a dream. I love Ed’s lyricism and metaphors connecting love and space. It’s just a whole vibe and is a must to blast in the car every drive.
STILL CHOSE YOU (FEAT. MUSTARD) - THE KID LAROI
Laroi has had a significant influence on my hip-hop and pop-rap sense. His writing style and flows are something of magic and it’s a dream of mine to write with him in the future. This song perfectly balances “love song” and “bouncy”.
LIFETIME - JUSTIN BIEBER
Must I say more? This song is “the” love song. I love covering this song live and singing my lungs out. I can’t formulate a sentence on the warmth that this masterpiece gives when I listen to it. Bieber’s soft vocals on top of the clean guitar scratch the right part of my brain.
OVERJOYED - MATCHBOX TWENTY
Matchbox Twenty is my comfort music and is what my parents brought me up to enjoy. This song gives all the right feelings and is very easy to listen to. Nostalgia takes over every time this band graces my ears and gives me a sense of home. For all “love” is, this song sums it up perfectly.
WAVES - DEAN LEWIS
I had to finish this list with a love song more on the sad spectrum. One of the first ever songs I ever learnt in full length on guitar and could sing simultaneously was this song and was also a big writing inspiration towards my 2021 EP Lost Out of Love. Dean Lewis is also one of my favourite Australian singer-songwriters.
