Brisbane-based indie-folk songwriter Nick Cunningham has unveiled his new single, With You. The track follows the release of the musicians latest EP, No Flowers, No Rain, which arrived earlier this year.
Opening with dulcet finger-plucked guitar melodies, Cunningham crafts a warm and embracing sonic realm - channelling the likes of Vance Joy and Ziggy Alberts. His soothing vocals float above, bringing story telling lyricism to life as the track builds with the addition of percussion and mesmerising production. The songs chorus presents itself as a booming sing-a-long moment in the musicians future live sets. Thematically, With You captures intimate moment shared between two lovers, and finding a sense of resolve within each other,
“I wrote the finger-picked guitar riff to this song in a hotel room in Adelaide the morning after meeting my now partner. We met while we were performing at an event in Adelaide of all places, and happened to live two suburbs apart in Brisbane. We had this trip away to the coast after a few dates and the lyrics really came from that.”
Having made his debut in 2015 with Letters, Cunningham has been working away building a catalogue of compositions, and carving out a space within the live music scene. Having hit the stage at festivals including Splendour In The Grass and Bluesfest Byron Bay, and supported Sons of The East and Kim Churchill, the musician wowed audiences across the nation with his rendition of Down Under on The Voice Australia in 2023.
