Brisbane/Meanjin electro-pop artist Miss Lucy recently shared his new single, Chocolate. To celebrate the release, the musician has shared with MILKY his five favourite songs that reference sweet treats.
“Chocolate is for anyone who has been addicted to an object, an idea or a person and the journey that the emotions take you on, starting from humble and non-harmful beginnings to sadness to then feeling free,” the musician explains. “I wanted the song to feel like an adventure for the beginning the same way these sorts of situations make you feel adventurous.”
STRAWBERRY FIELDS FOREVER - THE BEATLES
What can I say about this track that isn’t already said. Amazing band, weird time period for them and fun fact, I’ve been to Strawberry Fields and it’s just ok.
HUNNYBEE - UNKNOWN MORTAL ORCHESTRA
Love this band to death, had this song on repeat after I saw them live. Legitimately the best concert experience I’ve ever had.
CHAMPAGNE SUPERNOVA - OASIS
These guys just need to get on with it and get back together. I need to see Liam enunciate the death out of every word for no reason.
THE MAGIC WHIP (ALBUM) - BLUR
I think this album is based on an ice cream so I suppose this counts haha. I recently just got into Damon Albarn’s stuff and “Ghost Ship” off of this album is chef’s kiss - just has such a sweet and wavey dream like feeling to it.
INCENSE AND PEPPERMINTS - STRAWBERRY ALARM CLOCK
Double sweet reference here hey. I love to hate this song, only because it’s the quintessential 60s song in any movie that is a 60s bio pic. It’s so unbelievably 60’s and so clearly a constructed pop song, gotta love it.
