Pined For You My Whole Life is out now!

Singer songwriter Matt Maltese today shares Pined For You My Whole Life, the third single from his forthcoming new album Hers - set for release on Friday 16th May via The Orchard. To celebrate, the musician has shared with MILKY five things to expect from his forthcoming body of work.
“Potentially the most amount of yearning I’ve done in a song," Maltese says of Pined For You My Whole Life. "Which is saying something. Musically the song was a true joy to make, and is heavily inspired by all the Motown and soul I was grown up with. I’m not ashamed to say I get a lot of joy out of writing boldly pathetic declarations of love through the veil of American-leaning soul music.”
ONE
I think people can expect more comedy on this record as I really found a love for it again making this album. I realised for whatever reason, that earnestness had become a bigger part of my work in recent times. And whilst that’s always important and definitely plays a part here, I think I always get the most joy from making someone unexpectedly laugh in the midst of sadness. That’s helped me travel through things and understand them better along the way too. Lightness is so important, and even more so in today’s world I think. So, fingers crossed there’s a laugh or two in it for you!
TWO
Clarinets! Saxophones! Flutes! Generally, people can expect a lot of woodwind. I fell in love with it on this album.. and even though I wont go as far as saying it’s made the record orchestral, this album has a lot more going on with it on that front. There are 2 clarinet solos on this record, which many would argue is 2 too many, but I implore you to give the clarinet a chance. I did.
THREE
This was the first time I’ve produced a whole album myself in a studio, outside my bedroom. So I’d like to think people can expect the record to sound like a step forward. I enlisted the help of some wonderful musician friends (players from Gott Street Park, Wunderhorse etc) and actually just rehearsed and played through the songs for a week before recording anything. And I also gave myself months and months after the initial recording period to meticulously detail these songs. So I’d say it’s probably the first record where my production is as big a part of it all as the songs are, and where minimalism is less at play. I hate to be that guy that says ‘its my finest work yet’, but sadly I do think it’s maybe ‘my finest work yet’.
