Australian singer-songwriter and producer, Madoc Plane has unveiled his new single, Distance. The track serves as the first taste of the musicians forthcoming EP, Moving On.

The groove-laden track continues Plane's established fusion of funk and pop, leaning into more contemporary sounds with his latest release. The down tempo cut is driven by a central four-on-the-floor groove, with the tracks verses offering a more spatial and atmospheric sonic palette. Stacked vocal harmonies erupt in the songs chorus, showcasing the light and shade of Plane's vocal tones above a reoccurring guitar melody and beguiling production. Distance explores the idea of facing life's harder times head on, instead of running away, and turning your hardships into motivation. As the track reaches its climax, we're met with a jazz-infused outro heralded by a slinky piano melody. Set for release later this year, Moving On will centre itself around leaving behind relationships that leave you feeling restricted - and learning from your own experiences.

"It's been a long time coming, but I'm finally releasing a new tune. Towards the end of 2021, a good friend of mine and guitarist/producer, Christian Meares, sent through this short little idea that I immediately fell in love with. I responded with the vocal melody and hook, and from there, it just grew organically. The song remained an unfinished idea until about six months ago when I, along with my close friend and talented multi-instrumentalist/producer, Corban Chapple, rediscovered it and breathed new life into it. We extended the form by adding a bridge, and we re-produced and polished the sound to align with the style of music we've been particularly fond of lately," the musician shares.

"At the time of writing this tune, I had just gone through a break-up and was clearly feeling quite sorry for myself .. but fortunately, I had the opportunity to turn it into a song. This one is about not running away from the hurt and instead embracing it, channeling those feelings into motivation and drive to do better. I used my hardship in this situation as motivation for things like songwriting and going to the gym. I believe many people experience a phase in their lives where they recognise the positive effects of self-improvement and begin to understand the importance of prioritising self-care before others. The "distance" aspect of the song reflects the aftermath of the relationship, when we both went our separate ways but the emotional wounds remained. In this sense, "distance" symbolises both the physical separation from an ex and the emotional detachment needed to cope with the pain."

Inspired by the likes of Jordan Rakei, Matt Corby and Tom Misch, Plane recently completed his his fourth year of studies at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, majoring in contemporary vocals. Plane is set to hit the stage on Saturday September 21, supporting Wesley Black when his Us Against The World national tour hits Melbourne's Gasometer.
