Heavyweight is out now!

Melbourne-based writer and British India bassist William Drummond has dropped his new single, Heavyweight. To celebrate the release, the musician has shared with MILKY his list of ultimate pub feeds.

“The lyrics of Heavyweight are rooted in my time working in hospitality and the friends, and sometimes enemies, you make along the way. About the nights spent in dive bars, and pubs hardly sleeping and waking up and doing it all again," band member Will Drummond shares.

"In the 20 years I’ve spent touring this country we often had to wake up and do it all again and then again and then again. Some of the most enjoyable moments of touring are sitting around a table in a pub, restaurant or bar and trading stories from the previous night’s gig and becoming intoxicated with laughter. Next time you are in one of these neighbourhoods these are the places highly recommend” - Will Drummond (Heartbeatz)

MELBOURNE

411 George St, Fitzroy VIC 3065

We may as well start where Heavyweight had its genesis. A place very dear to my heart, The Marquis Of Lorne or “The MoL” as it’s affectionately known, is a neighbourhood pub, a restaurant, a date spot, a place for a rooftop party. Ever rotating drinks menu and the best pub food in Melbourne you’re sure to be satiated. If you’re travelling solo swing by, grab a spot at the bar, order the Rockling Burger and before long someone will strike up some conversation. You never know, I might just serve you a pot.

ADELAIDE

29 Frome St, Adelaide SA 5000

The first thing that hits you when you open the door of this Adelaide institution is the wave of rousing aromas. The beautiful redbrick building hosts some of the most wholesome food Adelaide has to offer. Mountains of pasta, loaded pizzas and a cracking wine list, this place has something to please everyone. With chalkboards brandishing daily specials, an open kitchen adorning vintage yellow tiles and gorgeous wooden tables and chairs and brilliant service you’ll feel like you’ve been coming here for years.

SYDNEY

9 Kimber Ln, Haymarket NSW 2000

Recently moved Gumshara offers the best Ramen in Australia and I would even go as far as saying it’s better than Ramen you’ll get in Japan. I don’t say that lightly, having been to Japan so many times I've lost count. Huge bowls of the the most unctuous soup, don’t plan on doing much after you’ve eaten this.

FREMANTLE

21 South Terrace, Fremantle WA 6160

The second trattoria to make it to the list. But how could it not. It’s like stepping back in time when you walk into the doors of this family run restaurant. The old Coca-Cola sign on the awning, the wood panelling, the table clothes, the fact it is still BYO!!!! Order a main and you can get a small side of any pasta. Just come for the most balanced and best complimentary minestrone soup you’ll ever have. It’s a pilgrimage I make every time I am lucky enough to travel west.

HOBART

120a Elizabeth St, Hobart TAS 7000

It doesn't matter how long you have to wait to get in, just wait. This is one of my favourite places in Australia to eat. This is hospitality at its finest. I love getting a spot at the bar, to listen to the Pitt & GIlbin speakers playing eclectic vinyl and work my way down the chalkboard boasting the day’s food menu. Don’t know anything about wine? Who cares! Start with a negroni, and have a chat to the lovely staff they will find something that will please you. The outside world ceases to exist when you are on that stool.
