On their sophomore EP, Tales of the Wild South West, Western Sydney alt-rock four piece The Shang are showing a more vulnerable side. Bringing their own personal battles and emotions to the forefront, the four-piece have created a body of work that continues the groundwork set on their debut, but elevates their musicianship to another level.
Recorded at The Grove Studio, the band worked with Jack Nigro to perfect the tracks present on the EP. The secluded studio on the central coast offered the boys the perfect environment to experiment with their sounds and approach making music in a new light.
The band released their debut single in 2017, having gained over half a million streams on Spotify. The track was followed up by their debut EP, The Kiki EP, which saw them play countless shows around Sydney. Since then, The Shang dropped a few stand-alone singles and in 2019 hit the road on a national tour. The run of shows saw the band sell out the Oxford Art Factory Gallery bar, co-headlining the main room only weeks later.
With three sold out performances at The Lord Gladstone as part of ‘BLOOM’, a weekly live music event at the venue, hosted by Waratah Records, the band can’t wait to hit the road. Whilst there are no official tour plans yet, The Shang tell MILKY that they plan to tour the new EP nationally.
