Aotearoa-born, Eora-based artist Somber Hills has delivered his new project, Pain Station. We caught up with the musician to chat about the release, crafting his hyper-punk sound, his upcoming live show and so much more!
The musical project of Lukas Martin, the release finds the musician touching on how pain can serve as a path towards personal growth and the everyday challenges of the human existence. Introspective and relatable lyricism are vividly brought to life by Martin's enigmatic performance, driven by a palpable angst that simmers beneath the surface.
Produced by Nat from BESTIES, Pain Station brings all the fiery energy of punk, whilst effortlessly weaving in threads of hyper-pop, rock and rap to create a genre-bending palette fuelled by a nostalgic quality that subtly exists within an overall contemporary sonic realm.
To celebrate the release, the musician will be hosting an exclusive Pain Station launch show at Sydney's Oxford Art Factory. Taking to the stage on Thursday 17 August, he'll be joined by specials guests Neon Belly, Shinji, Dorkk and a DJ set from Besties. Tickets are on sale now.
