Watch our interview with almost monday below!
American indie pop trio almost monday have just dropped their breezy new single, sunburn. We caught up with the trio whilst they were in Sydney to chat about the release, their artistry, the dynamics of performing live and so much more!
Inspired by the word 'sunburn' itself and all the imagery it conjures, the band went into working on the track building on that imagery with a sun-fuelled vibe. The perfect song for cruising down the coast, the track explores the age old idea of a summer fling, brought to life with vivid lyricism and frontman Dawson Daugherty's mesmerising vocals. Built upon a funky bass line from Luke Fabry and catchy guitar melodies from Cole Clisby, sunburn is the perfect cut for your long weekend playlists.
Forming whilst in university, life long friends Daugherty and Fabry were looking to start a new musical project. Following a chance encounter with Clisby whilst catching some waves, almost monday was born. With genre-defying influences ranging from David Bowie and Prince to Justice and Gorillaz, the trio took a chance and contacted producer Mark Needham (The Killers, Fleetwood Mac), who took the band under his wing and introduced almost monday to producer Simon Oscroft.
With two EP's and a string of singles under their belt, almost monday have been cutting their teeth in the live arena, having spent the first half of 2022 touring with Joywave across North America, performing at Innings Festival and playing their first international show right here in Sydney. The trio are set to undertake a run of festival shows across the remainder of the year, taking to the stage at Governors Ball Music Festival, Wonderbus Music Festival and Wonderfront Music & Arts Festival.
