Ahead of their appearance at Groovin The Moo 2022, we caught up with Hockey Dad vocalist Zach Stephenson to chat about the festival, the impact of live music, their next album and so much more!
In 2020, the Windang duo released their third studio album, Brain Candy, which debuted at #2 on the ARIA Albums Chart and scored the band a nomination for Best Album at the 2021 Rolling Stone Australia Awards. Currently in the midst of a national tour, the band will soon travel to New Zealand and North America for a string of shows, with Stephenson revealing to MILKY the band have recorded enough new material fo fill two albums.
After two years, one of Australia's key music festivals is returning with a stacked line up! Groovin the Moo has will make its return to Maitland and Canberra this weekend, before visiting Bendigo later this month.
Taking to the stage alongside Hockey Dad is Alice Ivy, Broods, Chaii, Hilltop Hoods, Hope D, HP Boyz, Jesswar, Jk-47, Lime Cordiale, Mashd N Kutcher, Masked Wolf, Middle Kids, Milky Chance, Montaigne, Peking Duk, Polaris, Redhook, Riton, Shouse, Snakehips, Spiderbait, Sycco, Thomas Headon and Wolf Alice.
Whilst organisers have shared the run of festival dates will take on a different format to years past to abide by varying state by state regulations, Groovin the Moo is set to return to three of its longtime signature regions. Kicking off in Maitland NSW on Saturday 23 April, the mammoth run of shows will continue on to Canberra ACT on Sunday 24 April, before a final weekend in Bendigo VIC on Saturday 30 April. All tickets to the cancelled 2020 event remain valid for Groovin the Moo 2022.
Promoter Steve Halpin of Cattleyard said; “It’s been a long time between Moo’s and we are so genuinely happy to be back on the road to some of our local regions to reconnect with artists, community, suppliers, team and most importantly, with each other! We have missed you all terribly and thank you for your patience.”
