Tarndanya/Adelaide-based indie-pop artist TUSHAR has dropped his new single, Bloodshot Eyes. To celebrate the release, the musician has shared with MILKY five facts about TUSHAR that he thinks you should know.
"I walked into a session with Benny and before we started writing, he told me about an experience he had over the weekend with an aggressive person. We dove into the story, and how he had met this guy at a party for the first time. What seemed like an okay guy, quickly turned into an angry, hyper masculine person looking for a fight. Benny said to me that he just didn't want to 'talk to him anymore' but didn't know how to tell him nicely without angering him. Six hours later, the song was written, recorded and finished!"
TUSHAR is currently touring alongside Mane, having kicked off the tour last week in Naarm/Melbourne. The run of shows will continue on to Eora/Sydney, Dharawal/Port Kembla and Dharawal/Wollongong next week.
ONE
I am currently advocating for more inclusion for Asian/South Asian Australian musicians who are trying to break into the western music scene. I played at SXSW Austin this year and I was overwhelmed by the number of Asian Americans that were in the room supporting me. I’ve never felt that connection in Australia before and I would love to find ways to close that gap. I want to offer more hope to non-white musicians who are trying to emerge in this country.
TWO
I am a massive fan of the English Premier League. I support Manchester United but unfortunately, they’re not doing so well for the moment. I miss the Fergy days where we dominated everything. Can’t wait to be back on top. I know it will take some time, but I won’t lose hope. I would love to be in the UK at some point on tour, and maybe I’ll have some time off to finally see a live match!
THREE
When I began playing music, my genre of choice was Folk. I started an Indie/Folk band back in 2016 and I learned a lot about the scene. This band was beneficial for me, as I’ve gained so much inside knowledge to be able to launch my solo career well, without any past hiccups I experienced while in the folk band. I’ll forever be grateful for the experiences I shared over the years of playing folk music.
FOUR
This year, I completed a 3-month backpacking trip around Central America with my beautiful girlfriend. We volunteered at a school, hiked up a volcano, we sledded down a volcano, we partied with amazing people, surfed at some of the best beaches, and became experienced scuba divers in the Caribbean Ocean. This has been the best trip of my life so far.
FIVE
My band consists of 6 members. I have two amazing guitarists (one of them is my producer, Benny Tamblyn), an incredible bassist, an exceptional man with many talents playing the synth, pad and floor tom, and the only drummer I’ll ever trust to keep us in time. I’m just the frontman running around with a tambourine. We’ll be touring in November 2023, so please come to our shows. It’s all free entry across Melbourne, Sydney and Wollongong.
