Last year, Jakarta-based singer-songwriter fry. delivered her single, Retrograde. The track is set to appear on the singers forthcoming EP, Crush Complex.
Across the song, fry. explores the ebb and flow of a relationship - with a particular focus on conflict, communication and feeling stuck. She likens these feelings and situations to astrology, and the retraction present when a planet enters retrograde. Produced by Sekar Astiari and Tabitha Atmodjo, fry.'s influences for the track include The Internet and SZA. Her soulful vocals float above a driving bass line, a combination of kick and hats patterns and mesmerising production.
Having made her debut in 2022 with Attention, fry. is the musical project of Yemima Frian. Over the past two years, the singer has dropped a string of singles in the lead up to her debut project. With each release, she continues to assert her artistry within Jakarta's local scene. Working as a full-time art director, her musical outlet is influenced by her time spent as a choir performer during her youth and her passion for story telling.
