The Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) and YouTube have treated us with massive news this morning, announcing a new In Conversation series that will bring together local and international acts.
Continuing their initiative of engaging with iconic Australian venues, the first instalment of the series will take place at Sydney's Factory Theatre on June 14, with English indie rockers The Wombats sitting down with Australian singer-songwriter Jack River to share their stories from within the industry. All proceeds from the event will be donated to Support Act, Australia's music industry charity providing relief to musicians, managers, crew and music workers left unable to work due to ill health, injury, mental health issues or crisis interruption.
“Holly featured on one of the tracks from my Love Fame Tragedy record in 2020, and absolutely nailed it! It was so great working with her, so we are thrilled that she will be hosting the In Conversation event for such a great cause, with proceeds going to Support Act. We can’t wait to see all of our Australian fans at the shows, and hope to see some of them for this special night of In Conversation” The Wombats’ singer and guitarist, Murph shares.
River adds, "Murph is one of the kindest people I’ve ever met, and one of the most talented songwriters in the world. I can’t wait to hear some stories from the road from him and the band and chat about the hell that was lockdown!”
CEO of ARIA, Annabelle Herd, said: “ARIA is determined to help find new and unique ways to bring Australian music back to the global stage after years of interruption. In Conversation is a fantastic way to invite the biggest acts from around the globe into our home, and help share their knowledge and passion with generations of fans, artists and industry professionals.
“We are very proud to present a resource outside of live shows and in a more intimate environment that can shine a light on the issues our industry faces locally and abroad. We are also extremely excited to welcome none other than The Wombats and Jack River to kick things off.”
Earlier this month, the Australian Recording Industry Association revealed this years ARIA Awards will find its new home at The Hordern Pavilion on Gadigal land this November, bringing the ceremony to one of Sydney's most iconic venues. The union of the ARIA Awards and the Hordern Pavillion is the perfect match for music lovers, driving the importance of supporting our local live music venues and incredible Australian artists.
Following two years of pared back ceremonies due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ARIA Awards are back in full swing, offering fans the chance to catch a glimpse of their favourite artists on the red carpet and experience memorable performances that only the ARIAs can provide. The ceremony will take place on Thursday, 24 November, broadcast across Australia on the Nine Network and streamed to the rest of the world on YouTube.
