Adelaide-based alt rockers Wolf & Chain have dropped their single, Phantom. To celebrate the release, the band have shared with MILKY five things they learnt whilst penning the track.

KEEP IT SIMPLE

I can’t tell you the amount of times we would try every variation of a part and layer things up to come back to the first idea and agree that it worked. Sometimes the simplest ideas can be the most poignant and effective. This song definitely taught us that you can say more with less.

DON’T HESITATE TO ASK FOR HELP

Working with Josh really helped us learn this lesson. Sometimes we felt the need to come up with every answer ourselves but we really learnt that it was so valuable to bounce ideas off of other people and to reach out for opinions when struggling.

BE OPEN MINDED

We really wanted to be open to trying new things and putting ourselves in situations that we weren’t used to. I think it was super important to give ourselves this creative space and we learnt so much from being outside of our comfort zone.

PUT THE SONG FIRST

It doesn’t matter how hard you can play, sing or smack the drums, if it doesn’t serve the song, it isn’t going on!

WORK HARD

Being in the studio can definitely be fatiguing at points but it’s important to remember the light at the end of the tunnel and the collective vision. We really learnt that the hours put in trying and trying again does pay off.
