Founding member of the hyperpop genre, Ravenna Golden has put her dynamic twist on Weezer’s classic Beverly Hills. To celebrate the release, the singer has shared with MILKY five things you should know about your new favourite artist.
MY NAME
People often mispronounce my name. In fact, they mispronounce my name more often than not. So just to clear that up from the jump, it’s Ruh-ven-nuh.
MY MUSIC ORIGINS
There is a part of me that can’t stand the word hyperpop, because i remember when it was just called nightcore. I've been sculpting the genre that would eventually become hyperpop since about 2015 and sometimes it feels like people don’t realize how far back it goes.
MY ROOTS
I grew up in St. Paul Minnesota for 10 years before moving to St. Louis MO, where I call home when people ask. I felt like an outsider in that city for a long time, but I love where I came from.
WHY I MADE THIS SONG
I love love love making cover songs. and Weezers Make Believe was a really exciting album for me growing up, So it’s fun to pay homage to a really influential music group/ song and put your own spin on it.
WHAT'S NEXT FOR ME
I am dropping a full EP in the months to come and I’m very nervous and excited to have a full project released for the first time in several years.
