The Last Resort is out now!
Australian pop artist, Holiday Sidewinder has shared her new single, The Last Resort. To celebrate the release, the singer has shared with MILKY five things she would bring with her to a dystopian island resort.
"I wrote The Last Resort during a period of my life when I could only listen to reggae and was planning to move to St Lucia. They say no man is an island, but I kind of was and desperately didn't want to be." Sidewinder shares.
100 YEARS OF SOLITUDE BY GABRIEL GARCÍA MÁRQUEZ
One of the few books I would happily read again and again over hundreds of years, in solitude on an island resort while the world was crumbling around me. “Wherever they might be they always remember that the past was a lie, that memory has no return, that every spring gone by could never be recovered, and that the wildest and most tenacious love was an ephemeral truth in the end.”
A GUITAR
Life is better with a guitar, wherever you go. I was in Bali a few months ago and borrowed a beautiful Martin acoustic from a local cafe owner, had a little strum everyday. Wrote some songs, learned some songs… I like to sleep with a guitar next to me. There’s a Japanese musician called Masayoshi Takanaka who has a surf board guitar. Obsessed.

A COLLECTION OF 1000 PIECE PUZZLES
If you’ve ever had a busy mind, 1000pc puzzles are the cure. You might feel like a patient in One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, but you start to get in a flow state and your eyes start to narrow into slight color differentiations you didn’t notice at the start, time starts to warp… It’s awesome. Trust me—very zen. My family love doing giant puzzles on vacation. I made my own Escape & Retreat Puzzle for my last single…Retreat Puzzle. I have a Slim Aarons I’ve been dying to do.

AN OYSTER SHUCK
Oysters are the perfect source of nutrients, a superfood, they also purify water, they’re also glamorous. If I could shuck myself some oysters, when everything was crumbling around me I’d be nourished and happy. I actually got professional shucking lessons from my local fishmonger. I’m vegetarian usually, but I make an exception for oysters -no face, no mother.

A SURF BOARD
I recently got back into surfing and bought my first board at a thrift store! I surfed a little bit as a kid in Bondi, but I’ve been dreaming about it for the last year. I loved the Apple series on the WSL and have been pretty obsessed ever since. Surf metaphors are the best. My father used to say if you get dumped, you gotta get back out there right away, so you don’t become fearful and give up altogether. There’s a tenacity and patience and calm with surfing that’s hard to find in other settings.
