English indie-rockers, Kaiser Chiefs have returned with their eighth studio album, Kaiser Chiefs' Easy Eighth Album. To celebrate the release, the band have shared with MILKY five songs that inspired the new direction of the album.

“The most rock ’n’ roll thing we’ve ever done is to stay together. I wouldn’t rather be in any other band,” says vocalist Ricky Wilson. “I’ve always been fascinated by bands who were allowed to get to their eighth album and then really hit their stride, like Pink Floyd or R.E.M.”

“We decided to make the easiest album we’ve ever made. It took longer than it should have done owing to the global pandemic, but after eight albums it should be easy. You shouldn’t have to struggle to make something good.”

THE ADULTS ARE TALKING - THE STROKES

It sounds like a Strokes song from 2001 and at the same time a Strokes song from 2020. It’s a hard thing to do.

ORDINARY WORLD - DURAN DURAN.

As well as obviously both working with Nile Rodgers, Ricky was listening to lots of DD around the time we made the album. They are this big pop band but then they come out with this melancholy classic. Keeps you guessing.

NEW SENSATION - INXS

Watch them playing it live at Wembley Stadium (1991).

PERSONAL JESUS - DEPECHE MODE

The idea of having a simple riff that just keeps going through the whole song.

FEEL - TY SEGALL

For the Fuzz!
