Indie-rockers The Delta Riggs are back with their new single, The Real Electric. To celebrate the release, the band have shared with MILKY five emerging artists they think we should all be listening to.
"The Real Electric is about trying to save someone from themselves. Taking them out of their world and bringing them into yours." the band share of the track, which was co-produced with Peking Duk's Reuben Styles.
To celebrate the release, the four-piece will embark on a national tour. Kicking off in Naarm/Melbourne on October 21, the run of shows will continue on to Eora/Sydney, Meanjin/Brisbane and Boorloo/Perth, before wrapping up in Wiradjuri/Bathurst on December 3 at Vanfest. Tickets are on sale now!
On top of having one of the best band names going around, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers are a bunch of legends who have a great vibe, look and punk energy that carries through all of their tunes and live shows.
The quartet executes a perfect storm of pop-infused grunge and punk-edged tracks, that recall the vibe of various Sub Pop label artists from the 2000’s era. There’s also a bit of Hole, with sprinkles of earlier Arctic Monkeys, and a sound that fans of Violent Soho would lap up (which checks out since their EP was produced by James Tidswell).
A great live band with an ever growing stable of bangers.
Originally Hailing from Trinidad, Gold Fang’s sound takes rhythms and flows from his Caribbean roots, and brings it into the future with hard hitting production and just all out star power.
He was actually part of the touring party on our ‘Active Galactic’ tour, jumping between playing the Moog, being a hype man, and doing verses on tracks like ‘Bobby’s Flowers’ (that’s how we first discovered him really).
Since then, he’s been busy carving out his own sound, and is really coming into his own as an artist. Exciting shit.
Stellie (Gab) hails from Adelaide. Since we met a couple of years back, her music has evolved into a great blend of dark-edged pop tunes, with an up front and intimate vocal approach, that keeps a human feel and dynamic to her songs and live performances. I’ve been lucky enough to work with her in the studio a few times, which is actually how we met.
Her most recent work kind of feels like Kanye West, Nina Simone and Lana Del Rey all got together to collaborate in an underground club in London.
Well worth checking out.
Melbourne-based IJALE is an accomplished artist, producer and writer, and definitely someone worth checking out.
IJALE’s sound transcends a lot of Australian hip-hop artists. He marries old school sample-based tunes and productions with other songs, similar to some of the bangers coming out of the USA this year.
I really like his approach to instrumentation and use of afrobeat rhythms in records, as well as his lyrics that hit, instead of just throwing out meaningless hooks; which sometimes is an all too familiar approach to music making.
Dope stuff.
These legends have a sick vibe! Lo-fi / jangly indie-pop tunes with lyrics that aren’t your run of the mill type of thang (oysters in my pocket).
I like how the songs don’t tend to overstay their welcome too. Some of them are just in and out, which is always a nice trait that keeps your thumb away from the skip button.
There’s also a nice polished yet DIY vibe about the band, which all adds up as they co-produce a bunch of their own material.
So, in summary, good interesting songs, with lyrics that paint scenes of people skipping out of windows after overnight encounters and not committing to love until maybe it’s too late. All wrapped up in jangly blankets seasoned with a few sprinkles of Mac Demarco Juno 106 synth lines.
Good band.
